In Part Number: SRT-OG
QTY

This oil spill training course helps participants identify the characteristics, purpose and use of the different types of spill control equipment and to be able to describe the appropriate action in the event of an oil spill.

Oil spill response training course name:

The control, containment and clean up of oil spills on land and coastal waters (Level 1)

Purpose:

This oil spill training course will provide an understanding of the concerns that management and other relevant authorities have towards environmental damage caused by oil spills.

The different types of absorbents that are available on the market and their individual characteristics are noted and discussed.

The course includes an understanding of the fundamental properties of hydrocarbons and the basic techniques and equipment used to control, contain and clean up spills.

A number of “hands-on” demonstrations are used to illustrate important aspects of various types of products. Discussion is held to evaluate those aspects including disposal options.

The important issues of bio-remediation, oil/water separation, disposal and incident reporting are also covered in the course.

A short test allows the presenter to review points and ensure those attending have grasped the important issues.

Benefits

  • An awareness of the environmental philosophy of the company
  • Confidence on how to use emergency response equipment
  • Knowledge of the type of equipment available to allow participants to review and improve their own hydrocarbon handling techniques.
  • Review the company’s emergency plans, incident reporting and disposal preferences.

This spill response training course has been used for over 20 years as the primary induction and safety course for mining and oil and gas companies around Australia. It has been designed to arm responders with the skills to safely handle most hydrocarbon spills (oil and fuel) in most situations that they may be faced with. The course is delivered via a PowerPoint presentation which includes animation and video demonstrations. The session also includes hands-on clean ups to reinforce lessons learned. Each participant receives a detailed, full colour textbook which elaborates further on each topic covered, and contains further reading on the larger equipment also used for oil spills on water.

Each participant is provided with course notes and a pen. On completion of the course each person receives a peak cap and a Certificate is forwarded from Global Spill Control.
