Hazard markers are used to emphasise to approaching traffic a marked change in the direction of travel or the presence (and width) of an obstruction. Hazard markers are intended for permanent traffic managment scenarios and may also be used to highlight the start of a channelling island, median strip/separator and on the central island of a roundabout in order to direct traffic past or around such an obstruction. This hazard marker is Class 1 retroflective and manufactured to meet the relavent Australian Standard.

Hazard marker signs are manufactured in metal or aluminium in various sizes as dictated by the Australian Standard. Generally, hazard markers feature of a series of black, white or sometimes yellow bands of either diagonal strips or chevron patterns.
